PROCESSING AND SHIPPING RATES FOR SMOKED SALMON AND ALL FRESH FISH
Onboard your fishing boat there will be a form asking you
what you would like to have done with your fish.
It will also ask you the date you will be home so that the processor knows to
ship it after that date.
It will not be shipped on that date but from one to three weeks after that date.
The rate for smoking your salmon is $3.00 per lb to smoke, filet and vacuum
pack.
Smoked salmon is sent by FedEx 2nd Day Delivery.
The processor will call you the day he ships so you know it will be arriving in
2 days.
The rate for all fresh fish is $1.50 per lb to filet and vacuum pack.
The fresh salmon is flash frozen and sent by FedEx One-Day Delivery.
The processor will call you the day he ships so you know it will be arriving the
following day.
FedEx fees are based on weight, with a 4-lb minimum (we hope you catch more, of
course!)
This minimum weight would cost approximately $30 for overnight delivery (fresh
fish) and
approximately $20 for two-day delivery (smoked salmon only).
Each additional pound costs approximately $1.00
The is a nominal charge for a special insulated shipping box with gel ice.
The cost of the boxes start at $7 (for 8 pounds or less).
A FEW MORE MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Will I get back the same fish I caught?
Absolutely! When Jerry's receives your fish, the tag you filled out is
attached to the bag that
contains your fish. We make sure that tag follows your fish through the
entire processing, packaging
and shipping system. We guarantee it!
2. What if I want both smoked and non-smoked fish?
If you caught two or more fish (or one really big one!), we can smoke part
and fillet or steak the rest.
We do have a 10-lb. minimum charge for each process. Smoked salmon can be
shipped by two-day service
(the least expensive), but if you have both smoked and non-smoked product it
must be shipped by Overnight.
3. How much fish can I expect to receive?
We weigh your cleaned (gutted, gilled) fish as soon as we receive it and note
that weight on your fish tag.
The head, fins, tail, and large bones (which are discarded during filleting)
make up about 25% of the total weight.
If you have your fish smoked, the smoking process draws excess moisture from
the fish, accounting for the loss of
approximately 30% of the filleted weight. The finished smoked salmon order
product will typically yield 50-60% of its cleaned weight.
If you have your fish filleted or steaked without smoking, you will receive
approximately 75% of the cleaned weight.
4. Will you ship my fish outside the United States?
We regret that we cannot do this (except as noted below) for several
reasons. The shipping costs are two to five
times higher than in the U.S. and there is no way to guarantee that the
quality of the fish will survive the longer
shipping times, and Customs in many countries will not allow it.
We do ship smoked salmon to Canada, but FedEx has higher International fees
for that, and there may be Customs
charges, depending on the value of the fish.
Shipments to Hawaii must be by Overnight Service and include an additional
"offshore fee" by FedEx.
